Overview

Enjoy Bergen by land and sea on this guided journey to some of Bergen's most spectacular scenic and historical sites. Bergen is nestled between mountains and the sea, offering incredible vistas. You'll board a boat and journey along Bergen's archipelago islands on a voyage to the scenic Lysefjord. You'll travel by coach through Bergen to Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Center, featuring medieval-style warehouses and alleys. Bryggen once housed German merchants, members of the Hanseatic League, and was re-built to its original glory following a devastating fire. You'll enjoy time to explore the unique shops, cafes, and artist's studios of this popular wharf.

Olden, Norway - Day 4 Briksdal Glacier Hike

 

 

Overview

Trek through the Norwegian wild to Briksdal Glacier, an arm of the largest glacier in continental Europe. You'll hike along river paths and see gentle waterfalls created by the melting ice. A final stretch past a small lake speckled with ice floes takes you to your destination, Briksdal Glacier. Soak up the views. Snap some great photos. Then, hike back to the Briksdal Mountain Lodge where you'll warm up with hot coffee and homemade cakes. OL29

• Enjoy a scenic drive along the Olden River, formed by the melting glacial waters.
• Set off on a 2-hour hike to and from Briksdal glacier in Jostedalsbreen National Park.

HALIFAX  9/2

i have booked a tour with Tours by Locals. We will be doing Peggy’s Cove and Lunenberg plus tour of Halifax..approx 5 - 5 1/2 hours.

We are a group of 8 people, looking for 2-4 more in a 14 passenger van.

10:00 AM - Pick up at your point of departure. Tour begins.
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Halifax to Peggy's Cove (1:30-hour stay)
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Lunenburg to Halifax
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM: Tour of Halifax

Your tour finishes and you are then taken back to your cruise ship pier in Halifax.

Price will be between $ 95 and $ 105 pp

Flight to Newark

 Flights to Newark (EWR)

I usually start out my flight planning on Google Flights.   I'm luck that we have 3 major airporst to choose from but I usually either fly out of San Jose (SJC) which is 9 miles away or San Francisco (SFO) which is 27 miles away. 

First up SJC to EWR -  Prices seem a bit high for First Class

SFO to EWR    Looks even worse 

Next I go to Flights by Celebrity  - little bit better out of SJC but SFO was obscene.  

Next I decided to check out using Mileage on United. I often get some good deals as a 2 Million Mile Flyer. 

Found I could get a couple flights for 50,000 miles with one stop or 60,000 non-stop.  After looking at the equipment and seating  - I chose the Non-Stop in a Dreamliner with Lie Flat bed seats.   Not bad when compared to $1,096 if purchased.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bar Harbor - Recommendation

Things improved once we were done with the tour.  First, we headed for lunch at the West Street Café, the second stop on our Lobster Roll Cruise Competition.    And, ding, ding, ding … we have a winner!   My lobster roll turned out to be the best of our cruise.  And my wife’s lobster bisque (which she had with a haddock sandwich) was an absolute highlight.  (The local Bar Harbor IPA was good too!)
